Short answer
The Altra Olympus 6 uses Altra's roomy FootShape toe box, so width is rarely the problem. Lab and wear testers consistently found it runs about a half size short, which means most people should order a half size up from their usual running shoe.

Fit Notes
- Altra Lone Peak 9+
- The Lone Peak runs true to slightly long, while the Olympus 6 runs short. Go a half size up from your Lone Peak size. The Olympus also feels a bit lower in toe-box height and much taller underfoot, so expect a more cushioned, less ground-connected ride.
- Hoka Speedgoat 6
- Both are max-cushion trail shoes, but the Speedgoat has a 5mm drop, a narrower toe box, and a lighter, rockered ride. The Olympus gives your toes much more room and sits flat. Size up a half from your Speedgoat size for length; width will feel far more generous.
- Brooks Caldera 8
- The Caldera is a softer, more forgiving max-cushion trail shoe with a 6mm drop and a medium-width forefoot. The Olympus is firmer, flatter, and roomier up front. A half size up keeps your toes clear of the bumper on long descents.
- Altra Olympus 5
- The Olympus 6 feels a little snugger through the forefoot and much more secure in the heel than version 5. If your Olympus 5 already felt snug in length, go up a half. If it felt roomy, your same size may work, especially in the wide version.
- Altra Torin 8
- The Torin 8 runs true to size with a snugger midfoot. The Olympus 6 runs short but feels roomier up front. Size up a half from your Torin size for the Olympus, and expect a much taller, stiffer, heavier shoe.
Sizing FAQ
Does the Altra Olympus 6 run true to size?
Not quite. It runs about a half size short, so most runners and hikers should order a half size up. That extra length also helps on long descents, when your feet slide forward and swell.
Does the Altra Olympus 6 come in wide?
Yes. The Olympus 6 is available in both regular and wide widths. The regular fit is already roomy in the toe box, so try wide only if you need extra volume through the midfoot and heel too.
Is the Altra Olympus 6 good for narrow feet?
It's better than a Lone Peak for narrow feet, thanks to the more secure heel cup, but the toe box is still wide. Narrow-footed hikers should tighten the laces with a heel-lock loop and stick to the regular width.
